Community Services

We believe that everyone should have access to fresh local fruits and vegetables, so we have partnered with local food banks to provide hungry families with our produce in a variety of ways. We are committed to providing opportunities for children to experience a working farm and taste food fresh from the field, where inevitably they rediscover the true sweet flavor of freshly harvested vegetables and fruits. We are focused on sharing the skills of growing and cooking freshly harvested produce.

Helsing Junction Farm created the CSA Food Bank program to help low income families access fresh local produce through the food bank. Every season we accept donations from our members, which we then match, allowing us to deliver  CSA boxes directly to families who rely on the food bank for some of their dietary needs. This has proven to be very successful and the families who have participated have been extremely appreciative. We would like to expand this program and suggest a donation of $1.00 a week (our season runs for 18 weeks) for a total of $18.00 for the season. We also accept larger donations. Please see the payment center for ways you can help!

We partner with The Gleaners Coalition, a non-profit based in Thurston County that organizes volunteers who come to our farm and harvest produce, which is then donated and delivered to a variety of food banks and shelters throughout the county. They are a far reaching group and last year they harvested 10,000 pounds of produce from our farm!  Many of the volunteers are school groups of all ages, and this provides an opportunity for children to experience a working farm. For more information on The Gleaners Coalition visit their web site at www.gleanerscoalition.org

We also host the Boys and Girls Club, and provide work opportunities for participants in GRUB (Garden Raised Urban Bounty), a non-profit organization that trains young people in farming skills. Visit their web site www.goodgrub.org

We host tours on our farm, allowing visitors to see a working farm, harvest fresh food from our fields, and meet the farmers. This is a valuable learning experience for families, teachers, or for anyone who wants to know more about small farm production. We believe that the more we can teach children about food, nutrition, health, and the value of local farms and keeping our environment clean and safe for food production in the future, the brighter our collective future is. Please contact us for more information about how you can participate!
